Urban Immersion Service Retreat
2019 UISR — Minneapolis
“Urban Immersion Service Retreats is a program of Greater Minneapolis Community Connections that creates and facilitates retreats to educate participants about the complexities of poverty through a lens of faith and service in their community. They educate and empower people of all ages to be change-makers in their community and create deeper understanding of the complexities of poverty through team building activities and critical reflection”.
First Presbyterian Church has sent a group to UISR for three consecutive years. Typically, Friday evening, Saturday evening, and Sunday morning are spent learning about poverty through various activities with fellow participants at the center while Saturday morning and early afternoon involve working at assigned charitable organizations in Minneapolis. Saturday meals are included, as is Sunday’s breakfast.
FPC has reserved 20-25 spots at UISR Center for March 8-10, 2019. We are waiting on a firm commitment, but expect that, at a minimum, 7 of the 20 spots will go to our confirmation students and adults associated with our confirmation program. The total cost for each participant is $100. A $20 deposit is required, and FPC has paid this for the 20 spots that we have reserved. We need to have a final number by Feb. 1st. As long as there are spots available, we can add to the number but the deposit is nontransferable after this date.
If you would like to work with us through our group reservation, please let us know as soon as possible. Please submit a $20 deposit (checks can be made to FPC) for each spot and some information about who the spots are for (names, corresponding ages and phone numbers). Full payment is due January 30, and is an additional $80 per spot. That, too, can be submitted to FPC and then we will send one check of the full payment for the group.
